FAQ

Answers to the questions people actually ask.

Pricing, insurance, what happens in the first session, the difference between virtual and in-person — all below. Skim the sections on the side, or just scroll.

Getting started

The first conversation is short and costs nothing.

How do I book a first session?

Start with a free consultation. Fill out the contact form, email hello@clearmoontherapy.com, or call (647) 372-0577. You'll hear back in 24–48 hours.

What happens on the consult?

Fifteen minutes to hear what's bringing you in, answer your questions about therapy, and see if we're a fit. There's no paperwork, no credit card, and no obligation to continue. If you leave the call unsure, that's a valid answer — we'll suggest next steps either way.

What's the first session like?

The first full session is 50 minutes. You tell us what's been going on — as much as feels manageable — and we listen, ask questions, and together map out a direction for the work. No homework, no prescribed pace.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes — up to 48 hours before the session, no fee. Within 48 hours, a late cancellation fee may apply. We try to be reasonable about genuine emergencies.

02 — About us

The practice

Who we are, what we stand for, who we work with.

Who founded Clear Moon Therapy?

Darshana Patel, MSW, RSW. She founded the practice in 2024 and leads the clinical team. The About page has the longer story, including why the practice is named Clear Moon.

What makes Clear Moon Therapy different from other practices?

Cultural fluency, not just cultural awareness — your context is the starting assumption, not an accommodation. The work is goal-oriented and evidence-based (CBT, DBT, ACT, and others), not open-ended talk therapy. And the team is intentionally small — three clinicians chosen for fit, not rostered for volume.

Who do you typically work with?

Adults and couples navigating anxiety, stress, identity, and relationships — often professionals, often first- or second-generation, often carrying quiet family expectations. We also see children (10+), teens, and families. You don't need to fit a category to belong here.

03 — What we do

Our services

What we offer and what we help with.

What services do you offer?

Four kinds of support:

  • Individual therapy (adults)
  • Couples therapy (all relationship structures)
  • Family therapy
  • Children's therapy (age 10+)

All available virtually across Ontario; individual therapy is also offered in person at the Etobicoke office.

What issues do you help with?

Anxiety and chronic worry · depression and low mood · stress and burnout · trauma and PTSD · self-esteem · life transitions · cultural and intergenerational dynamics · imposter experiences · relationship patterns · parenting and family conflict · children's emotional regulation and school-related challenges.

If what you're carrying isn't named here, it probably still belongs here. Reach out and we'll say so honestly.

Do you offer couples therapy? What about if my partner won't come?

Yes, couples therapy is a core service. If your partner isn't ready, individual sessions focused on your relationship can still help — both to build your own tools and to model what the work looks like. Many couples start this way.

Is children's therapy right for my child?

Children (10+) may benefit from therapy if they're struggling with big emotions, behaviour changes, school difficulties, withdrawal, or anxiety that isn't shifting. Sessions use age-appropriate approaches — conversation, play-informed techniques, and activities. Parents are kept informed and given tools to use at home.

04 — Sessions

How sessions work

Format, length, and pacing.

Are sessions in person or virtual?

Both. In-person sessions are at 5399 Eglinton Ave W, Suite 204, Etobicoke, ON. Virtual sessions run on a PHIPA-compliant secure video platform and are available anywhere in Ontario.

How long is a session?

Fifty minutes for standard individual, children's, and family sessions. Couples sessions can run 50 or 90 minutes depending on what we're working through. The free consultation is always 15 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

Honest answer: it varies. Most clients find a weekly rhythm settles things within 8–12 sessions. Some stay longer — working on deeper patterns takes time. We talk about pacing openly, and endings are planned, not ghosted.

Does therapy actually work?

Decades of research say yes, especially when there's a strong working relationship between you and your therapist — which is why we spend the free consult seeing if we're a fit. It's also why we're up-front if we're not the right match, and will refer you elsewhere when that's the right call.

05 — Money

Fees & insurance

What sessions cost and what insurance covers.

How much do sessions cost?

All fees include HST.

  • Individual therapy: $160–$175 per 50 min
  • Couples & family therapy: $190 per 50 min
  • Children's therapy: $190 per 50 min
  • Reduced-rate individual: $80 per 50 min
Are reduced rates really available?

Yes. Reduced-rate spots at $80 are available for individual therapy when you need them — no documentation, no means-testing. Mention it on the consult and we'll handle it privately. Spots are limited; availability varies. Reduced rates don't apply to couples, family, or children's sessions.

Does insurance cover this?

Most extended health benefits plans cover services from a Registered Social Worker (RSW) or Registered Psychotherapist (RP). Coverage amounts vary by plan — check with your provider. We don't direct-bill insurers, but we issue detailed receipts you can submit for reimbursement.

Is therapy covered by OHIP?

No. Psychotherapy provided by social workers and registered psychotherapists isn't covered by OHIP. Coverage typically comes through employer extended health benefits, university/college plans, or private insurance.

What payment methods do you accept?

Major credit cards. We ask for card details before the first paid session, but not before the free consultation.

06 — Confidentiality

Privacy & your records

How we handle what you share.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes — as a baseline. What you share in session stays between you and your therapist. There are narrow legal exceptions: imminent risk of harm to yourself or someone else, reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect, or a court order. Your therapist will walk you through these in the first session.

Is virtual therapy secure?

Yes. Virtual sessions use a PHIPA-compliant (Personal Health Information Protection Act) encrypted video platform. Your data and session content aren't stored or shared.

Who can access my records?

Only your therapist, unless you provide written consent to share with another party (for example, a family doctor or insurance provider). We retain clinical records as required by the OCSWSSW and CRPO regulatory colleges.

07 — For busy lives

If you're short on time

Therapy that fits working hours.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Yes — availability varies by clinician. Evening slots (typically 5–8 pm) and Saturday slots exist. Virtual sessions make this easier since you can attend from anywhere, including during a lunch break.

I don't have time for therapy. Is it worth it?

Most clients tell us the time spent in therapy returns itself — better sleep, less reactivity, sharper focus, fewer hours lost to anxiety or rumination. An hour a week is small compared to what ongoing stress costs in unnoticed ways. That said: we're not going to convince you. If it's not the right time, come back when it is.

Will therapy help with work stress specifically?

Yes — burnout, overwhelm, perfectionism, difficult colleagues, career transitions, and the harder-to-name feeling of being capable but exhausted are core areas of our work. We focus on practical tools: nervous-system regulation, boundary-setting, reframing patterns, and workable ways to actually rest.

Still have questions?

Some things are easier to say out loud.

Book a free consultation and we'll talk through whatever this page didn't answer. No form, no paperwork, no obligation to continue.
