What it is

Therapy that centers around you.

You bring what's been going on. We listen, reflect, and map out a direction together.

Individual psychotherapy is a confidential, one-on-one space where you work with a registered clinician to understand what's been weighing on you — and build actual tools to respond to it differently. It's not open-ended venting; it's deliberate work, shaped around your goals.

What that looks like varies. Some weeks, we're untangling a specific situation. Others, we're processing something older that keeps showing up in new shapes. The tools come from evidence-based frameworks (CBT, DBT, ACT, EFIT, polyvagal theory), but the way they're used is tailored to you.

Who it's for

A few of the things that bring people in.

You don't need to fit a category to belong here. If something below sounds familiar, that's reason enough to talk.

  • Anxiety that won't quiet down. Racing thoughts, low-grade dread, difficulty sleeping. A sense that your nervous system hasn't had a chance to rest in a long time.
  • Feeling flat or disconnected. Going through the motions. Not depressed enough to call it depression, but not engaged with life in the way you used to be.
  • Patterns you keep hitting. Relationships that end the same way. Boundaries you know you should set and don't. Reactions you're tired of apologizing for.
  • Something from the past, still showing up. Old experiences that still shape how you feel in the present — at work, in intimacy, when you're alone with your thoughts.
  • A transition that's bigger than expected. A move, a loss, a new role, a shifting identity. You thought you'd be more okay than you are, and that's confusing.
  • The cultural and family weight. Expectations you've outgrown but still feel. The space between who you are and who your family expected you to be.

How we work

Evidence-based tools, chosen to fit.

We draw on a toolbox of well-researched modalities and select what's useful for you — session by session, not by protocol. Here's what shows up most often in individual work.

CBT

Cognitive behavioural therapy

Notice the thought, name the pattern, practice a different response. Practical and skill-based.

DBT

Dialectical behaviour therapy

Tools for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and getting through intense moments without making them worse.

ACT

Acceptance & commitment therapy

Less about controlling difficult thoughts, more about acting on what you actually care about, even while they're present.

EFIT

Emotionally focused individual therapy

Working at the level of emotion itself — naming what's underneath, so the surface stops being so loud.

Polyvagal

Nervous-system work

Understanding how your body's threat response shapes your day — and gentle practices for returning to regulation.

What to expect

The shape of the first few weeks.

Therapy isn't linear, but the pacing of the early work is predictable. Here's what the first few sessions usually look like.

Week 0 — Free consult

A free consultation

Tell us what's bringing you in. We listen, answer your questions, and see if we're a fit. No paperwork, no commitment.

Week 1 — Intake

The first full session

A deeper conversation — what's been going on, what you've tried, what you're hoping for. Together we set a direction.

Weeks 2+ — The work

Finding the rhythm

Most clients land on weekly sessions. Some stretch to every two weeks as things steady. Pacing is yours.

Who provides this

Common questions

Before you book.

More on the full FAQ.

How long is a session?

Fifty minutes. The free initial consultation is 15 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients find a weekly rhythm settles things within 8–12 sessions. Some stay longer when working on deeper patterns. We talk about pacing openly and adjust as we go.

What does a typical session look like?

The first session is a wider conversation — what's been going on, what you've tried, what you're hoping for. Subsequent sessions move between exploring what's surfacing in your week and practising specific tools. Progress gets reviewed openly every few weeks.

Is individual therapy covered by insurance?

Most extended health plans cover RSW and RP services. Coverage amounts vary by plan. We don't direct-bill insurers but provide detailed receipts for reimbursement.

Are reduced rates available?

Yes — $80 per session for individual therapy when you need it. No documentation, no means-testing. Mention it on the consult; we handle it privately. Spots are limited.

Can I do sessions virtually anywhere in Ontario?

Yes. Virtual sessions run on a PHIPA-compliant secure video platform and are available anywhere in Ontario — including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, and the wider GTA. Most clients mix in-person and virtual depending on their week.

What if we're not a good fit?

The consult is where we figure that out. If individual therapy with us isn't right, we'll say so honestly and point you toward someone who is. No pressure, no commitment.

Ready when you are

Start with a free consultation.

No paperwork, no commitment, no sales pitch. Just a short conversation about what's been going on and whether we're a fit. Most people find the next step gets clearer just by saying it out loud once.
